Da molti anni avevo questa immagine da dipingere, ma non riuscivo a farlo, forse perchè intrisa di molto dolore, In quanto ispirata alla triste vicenda avvenuta nel naufragio del 03/10/2013, ovvero la nascita di un bambino mentre la madre moriva. “Lei annegava, prigioniera dentro la prua del barcone che s’inabissava sul fondo del mare di Lampedusa. Lui anche, appena nato e ancora legato alla sua mamma dal cordone ombelicale. La ragazza africana aveva poco meno di vent’anni e portava in grembo quell’esserino di appena sette mesi”. Ho voluto con il mio dipinto ridare una vita immaginaria e spirituale alla madre e al figlio , riunendoli in una danza , una danza della vita in fondo al mare.
